About the course

Introduction

For prospective teachers wishing to pursue a career in Further Education, working with students aged 14 and over, or for those who currently hold an FE teaching role and wish to gain a full teaching qualification. On successful completion of a two- year course, with literacy and numeracy at Level 2, plus a specialised subject at Level 3, students may apply for QTLS status, which is the equivalent of QTS status.

Units include:

  • Teaching, learning and assessment in education and training.
  • Theories, principles and models in education and training
  • Inclusive Practice
  • Wider Professional Practice
  • Action Research
  • Developing teaching, learning and assessment in education and training
  • Developing, using and organising resources in a specialist area.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have a level 3 qualification or relevant experience along with level 2 English and Maths or equivalent. (If you do not have English or Maths you should have a willingness to work towards the level 2 by the completion of the course). Candidates must already be in a teaching role with a minimum of 50 hours teaching per year spread out over the year. Evidence of a satisfactory DBS check is also required.

Note: Enrolment is subject to interview and suitable initial assessments/certificates

This course is for students aged 19 and over, who are in teaching roles (or can get teaching hours) with students who are aged 14 and over.

What additional resources will I need?

Access to a computer to support assignment work and use of the VLE. We recommend a number of books; however, the majority are accessible through the college library.
